I chose psychopathy for Bayley in the end because I went into motivations for his behaviour and couldn't sort him out. I really don't think he had one.
He was just a bad man. Like you said Ciaran. So thanks, both of you.
Now I have to find a level space in which to write it. Like I wrote, I spent a day and a half trying to and it was a headfuck. The extent of your fictional work on him and what the Menang girl and little Weed had to endure can't be anything but unpleasant. I'm with MF's view though and think that a sympathetic sharing of their pain is fundementally redemptive and therefore a good thing.ciaranlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06668781624804602369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8649507973626411498.post-11327152511806759012012-04-27T17:45:05.870+08:002012-04-27T17:45:05.870+08:00PS: It helps when you know what ultimately motivat...PS: It helps when you know what ultimately motivates EVERY human action. When I got a handle on that I could look differently upon, though not condone, some very aweful things.Dr Mad Fishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10274692672575145183noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8649507973626411498.post-25491257089586757192012-04-27T17:41:05.008+08:002012-04-27T17:41:05.008+08:00ST I can only support you in this but also suggest...ST I can only support you in this but also suggest that you maintain some firm 'anchors' in the consensual world - some guides. I am not kidding......having been to some very dark existential places in the last several years doing my thesis about the Gap and the Unconscious and you would have heard me say and write - it has tipped me over the edge. BUT.......I came back - with a whole lot of insight for which I am incredibly grateful.

Doing this sort of work is essential at some stage in one's evolution so I am encouraging you to continue working with it. It won't be easy, it takes a courage but you are brave. Don't let anyone tell you it's not worthwhile. Being able to know and express the darkness doesn't make you evil - it's part of the human condition. The world is full of people projecting their self-denied darkness onto the 'other' and we all see the results of that. I think writing and making art about this stuff is the perfect alternative to being a psycopath!Dr Mad Fishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10274692672575145183noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8649507973626411498.post-11910312201535019332012-04-27T09:21:13.821+08:002012-04-27T09:21:13.821+08:00The research doesn't freak me too much Tom. Dunno how I got into this dark world really.
I've put down books like the one you mentioned too. That or thrown them across the room. I can feel quite violated!sarah toahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12412812914705725798noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8649507973626411498.post-9234787324591478112012-04-27T04:42:09.599+08:002012-04-27T04:42:09.599+08:00Careful about the research, Sarah. It can take you to places from which you will never return as the same person.

I had to put down a good book once - "Down There", by Huysmans - because I new I would never be the same if I finished reading it, and I could not be sure if the change would be for the better.

True psychopaths and true paedophiles show no signs of remorse whatsoever. You don't need to take an internet test to find out if you are either.Tom Stephensonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05979590950587415840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8649507973626411498.post-61098282390640154882012-04-27T03:40:35.832+08:002012-04-27T03:40:35.832+08:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04424066726955708314noreply@blogger.com
