Let it Ring

When the heart
Is cut or cracked or broken,
Do not clutch it:
Let the wound lie open.
Let the wind
From the good old sea blow in
To bathe the wound with salt,
And let it sting.
Let a stray dog lick it,
Let a bird lean in the hole and sing
A simple song like a tiny bell,
And let it ring.

  1. Good advice. I think you may be doing that now.

    1. I am sorry if my comment of a while ago (motorcycle) was insensitive. I didn't understand and I am not sure if I do now. X

  2. Yes, suffer it and then it will mend. I shall write his name down as my first Australian poet - I am doing a course in Australian poets later this month. Thanks!

    1. Leunig is primarily a cartoonist Rachel, look him up. I reckon you'd like his work. Then find his sister Mary. Bleakest funnies ever.
