F*ck off, we're beautiful

This morning I woke up before dawn and drove into town, climbed a mountain to see the sun rise in the east. It is always an Albany's 'fuck off, we are so much more beautiful' moment.

And then lichen ... oh lichen.

  1. A friend of mine was sent to the massive ancient stones of Avebury to clean off graffiti that some arse had sprayed onto them. He hired a huge, powerful laser which somehow blasted the paint of without damaging the continuously developing, 5000 year-old lichen growth. We take care of our lichen here too.

    1. That’s amazing, both that he managed to get the paint off without damaging the lichen and then its age. Does that mean the organism is 5000 yrs or that it has been regenerating in the same place for that long?

    2. I think either the latter or both. We are all related to our neighbours.

    1. I believe it is called Stonecrop, because it feeds on stone.

    1. Those islands ... I stayed there once for a week. It’s where I based my novel The Sound.
