Enough of flames for a little while and back on the WineDark Sea... except to let you know that the Toa sisters are all okay. The weather in Margaret River has cooled down which will make it easier to bring the fire under control, today. The Denmark fires sound like they have settled down a bit too. I woke this morning with smoke from 50 kilometres away filtering through my curtains.
Last night we fished for flathead and then motored home at night, past the container ships.
Glad to hear you are safe and your sisters too. Some day I would like to see Margaret River for the surf, mind you it is one super heavy setup with sharky additives.
ReplyDeleteThanks Merc, I live down the coast a fair way, so most of my distress over the last few days has been created by not being able to help them.
ReplyDeleteYes, sharks. Mm. Beautiful place though. World class breaks.
I don't mind sharks it's just that the Perth one's really do bite for keeps, seemingly. I have had my eye on Perth for many many years since I read an article in a mag with a guy travelling in his car (EH Holden) to all these amazingly deserted breaks.
ReplyDeleteI can work there too, they genuinely want people who do what I do, hmmmm
Don't NZ great whites bite too? Maybe they are better fed, mm?
ReplyDeleteYou consider WA and I consider NZ. I'd love to live there, one day.
Speaking of fires, I saw the gorse go up in Dunedin a few years ago. They didn't even bother with trucks in those mountains, just brought the water bombers in.
Ah the eternal switcheroo. I think I may be a home boy for some years yet, our daughter is going to Uni in Dunedin next year and my sister lives there. There are GW's, famously at Murdering Bay, but yes I think they are too well fed. Surfing down there it's the least thing on my mind, that's story for another day.
ReplyDeleteThe South Coast is epic.
I went to Otago. It's a fantastic campus and neighbourhood. We lived in the student housing (me and the kids) for six months. What an eye opener!
ReplyDeleteGosh, with kids! My daughter asks how old were you when you did this? You were born here no?
ReplyDeleteNo, West Aussie born. I went over in 2007 as an exchange student. So I was the proverbial brick dunny - a 30 something mother amongst teenagers. I studied Irish Lit, Maori History, Modernist Lit and NZ/Pacific Archeology. It was excellent! My home campus has about thirty students, so Otago was surreal.
